When Jesus was on earth, He was accused of claiming to be God by the Jewish authorities. They wanted to kill him, so they came up with “many charges” with which to bring Him before the Roman court, hoping they would find Him guilty of treason and execute Him.
The Roman governor, Pontius Pilate questioned Him, and finding no criminal guilt in Him, but intrigued by Jesus bearing and answers, asked Him: “What is Truth?”.
What is Really “Real”?
We are surrounded by contradictory information on the news, it seems like everything changes, whether a scientific truth we all thought was true, or the right “diet” with which to finally get in shape. We want something “solid”, something to rely on, that has been proved over and over in the test of time.
Jesus said, “I am the Truth”.
What is Real “Life”?
We have the nonsensical answer of “42” from a cynical movie, and the common perspective that there is really no meaning to life, except to have the most fun you can. But what happens when the fun stops? When life becomes painful and difficult? What happens when life ends? We want a meaning to guide us, a purpose to embrace, and a goal to achieve.
Jesus said, “I am the Life”.
Does God “exist”?
We look at the world, full of amazing and beautiful things, the boundless universe, the human intellect, and art and music and logic. We see the complexity of a leaf, and the subtlety of a spider’s web. We look into our own conscience, and we know that God “is there”. We know He is the Father of all, and we seek out ways to know Him.
Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).
At Grace Evangelical Free Church, we seek to glorify God and extend His kingdom by living and proclaiming His truth in the world. In other words we preach and teach Jesus Christ as the Way to God, the Truth to experience and the meaning of Life.
